Default year level

What Markpilot writes by default

Tone: appropriate for a parent report. Australian English by default.
Length: a paragraph per comment — not a wall of text.
Grounded: each comment is anchored on the student's actual marked data, not generic praise.
No AI tells: avoids the padded-phrase, score-judging, internally-stating language that gives away machine-generated copy.
Two formats per student: parent report and student-facing draft.

These defaults run automatically. Add preferences below only if you want to override them (e.g. "use British English spelling", "always end with a one-line parent action item").

Style preferences

Align next-step language with Bloom's Taxonomy Each next step is phrased with a Bloom's verb pointing one cognitive level above where the student currently sits (Understand → Apply → Analyse → Evaluate → Create). Applies to BOTH parent and student next-steps — parent next-steps use the everyday-English subset ("apply", "explain", "compare"), student next-steps use the full palette including academic-register verbs. The rest of each comment (strengths, narrative body) is untouched. Off by default.

Add a "questions to review" page to each student's PDF For each question the student lost marks on, Markpilot writes a similar question (same skill, new numbers) and a worked solution. Original question stays alongside for context. Uses one extra credit per student. Untick if you only want the comment.

AI review — verify the marking against the student's work (on by default) When you upload scanned papers in Step 3, Markpilot reads each student's working and flags any question where the awarded mark doesn't seem supported — with a quoted phrase from the working. Nothing changes in your workbook unless you accept the flag. Requires student PDFs in Step 3. Uses one extra credit per student. Untick to skip the second-marker pass.

Help improve Markpilot — share anonymous edit patterns When you regenerate a comment with feedback (e.g. "make it shorter"), we save the before-and-after to learn what teachers actually want. Anonymous, no student names, no marks, opt-out anytime.

2How are these papers being marked?

Pick the workflow that matches where you're at. You can change this any time.

I've marked in the workbook myself Marks are already entered in the Excel file. Scanned papers are optional — they sharpen the feedback with working-level evidence. I've marked the papers by hand Upload the scanned papers — Markpilot reads your hand-written marks into the workbook so you don't have to transcribe them. Workbook can be blank. The papers aren't marked — Markpilot marks them Upload unmarked papers plus a mark scheme (required). Markpilot proposes marks per question against the scheme, flags anything borderline, and waits for your Accept / Reject / Amend before writing to the workbook.

3Upload your marking workbook

Upload the .xlsx file you downloaded from the markbook generator. With marks entered if you marked in Excel — or just the class list if Markpilot is filling the marks from papers.

Optional: upload a mark scheme

When you provide a mark scheme PDF, Markpilot uses it to sharpen what it sees in each student's working — especially partial credit and identifiable method errors. Useful for maths and science; matters less for short-answer subjects.
